Study in France
Why Choose France for Higher Education?
France is the country of good quality education combined with low cost and immersion in local culture. The government subsidizes its public universities heavily, and therefore, tuition is significantly cheaper than that in other Western countries. There is a large range of courses that can be taken in English and French, and most likely at a postgraduate level.
In addition to the classroom, France enables living a high life and has a wide international student community, as well as avenues of part-time work. Plus, it sits at the heart of Europe, giving you a gateway to explore neighboring countries while you study.

Tuition Fees & Scholarship Opportunities
One of France’s biggest advantages is its cost-effective education system. Tuition fees at public universities are very reasonable:
- Undergraduate degrees: €170 – €650 per year
- Postgraduate degrees: €250 – €3,000 per year
- Private institutions: €3,000 – €10,000 per year (varies by program and city)
The cost of living is estimated between €800 and €1200 a month, depending on the city.
International Students have access to many scholarships:
- Eiffel Excellence Scholarships – Offered by the French Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs
- Émile Boutmy Scholarships – Awarded by Sciences Po
- Erasmus+ Programs – For EU and non-EU students
- University-specific grants based on academic merit or need
At Study Wiser, we assist you in identifying and applying for the scholarships that best fit your profile.
Student Life, Accommodation & Career Prospects
France provides a high quality of living, security, and an active student culture. The most popular cities where the students can live are Paris, Lyon, Toulouse, Grenoble, Bordeaux, and Montpellier, and each of them has a peculiar ratio of academic, cultural, and affordable opportunities.
Accommodation options include:
- University residences (run by CROUS)
- Private rentals and shared apartments
- Homestays with local families
The price of housing is between 300 and 800 Euros per month. The students will also be able to get discounted transportation and subsidized cafeteria meals, and have the ability to work in retail and hospitality, and administration in part-time jobs.
Most institutions have an internship and co-op placement program as part of the college curriculum, working with companies towards increasing job exposure and prospects even before graduating.
Important Updates for 2025 Applicants
The French government currently, in 2025, pays more attention to student visa management. This includes:
- Stronger financial documentation
- Campus France approval process
- Early application deadlines due to high demand
- Proof of accommodation and health insurance at the time of visa filing
