The Canadian education system is dynamic and provides undergraduate, postgraduate, diploma, and research courses under several disciplines, such as engineering and healthcare, to computer science and the arts. Most institutions have three main intakes, which include January, May, and September, which provide students with the freedom of having flexibility in their application and time when they need to start at the university. Be it career-oriented college diplomas or research-based university degrees, Canadian universities and colleges provide top-quality, worldwide recognized qualifications under Designated Learning Institutions (DLIs) – a requirement to get a student visa with a post-study work privilege.

Tuition Fees and Scholarships

Although the tuition fees depend on the programs and the province, Canadian education is quite cheap compared to the UK, the US, or Australia. The average of international students may expect:

  • Undergraduate programs: CAD 15,000–30,000 per year
  • Postgraduate programs: CAD 17,000–35,000 per year
  • Living expenses: CAD 12,000–18,000 per year

Several scholarships can also be obtained from the Canadian government, the provinces, as well as at individual universities. These are the Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarships, Ontario Trillium Scholarships, and merit-based scholarships that Study Wiser can assist you in applying for.

Study Permit & Work Rights

In Canada, you will be required to obtain a study permit to enable you to stay and work part-time as a student in Canada. Study Wiser guides you throughout the whole process- starting with the choice of a DLI, to writing a visa document, and arranging interviews.

The students are allowed to work a maximum of 20 hours in a week period when studies are taking place, and also consecutively during official vacations. Upon completion of your studies, you can obtain a Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) up to three years, which frequently results in permanent residence.

Newer policies like study permit quotas and increased financial conditions make it even more crucial to get an early start and to apply properly. Our consultants are well aware of all the changes happening in visa applications, and they keep your application in the requirements of the current state.

Student Life, Accommodation & Work Experience

Studying in Canada implies being involved in a thriving community of students, where safety and diversity are paramount, in addition to support. International students prefer cities such as Toronto, Vancouver, Montreal, and Calgary for their urban vitality and scenic nature.

Students can reside on campus, in shared rentals or homestays, costing between CAD 500-1,000 per month, usually dependent on the area. There are a significant number of part-time positions in cafes, retail shops, tutoring, and university departments, which are an excellent opportunity to collect experience and earn money while studying.

Co-op terms or internships that are included in many programs give hands-on experiences and help you develop a resume by the time you graduate.

Important Updates for 2025 Applicants

Since 2025, Canada has been limiting approvals of study permits to 437,000 amid increased demand. This further adds to the necessity to apply early and make sure your documents are complete. The new visa requirements may also require you to have a provincial attestation letter (PAL) and evidence of increased financial strength (approx. CAD 20,000+ as living expenses).

Study Wiser keeps current of all the changes, so you never get left behind by a change in policy or a mistake on your paperwork.
